New Fire Safety Legislation October 2023
Following on from the Grenfell tragedy, the government has continued to review and update Fire Safety Legislation to prevent such an event from happening again.
As of 1st October 2023, the government has rolled out Phase 3 of their legislation updates, aimed at bolstering the safety and management of all structures under the Regulatory Reform Order (2005) such as high-rise flats. This legislation underscores the necessity for clear signage and regular maintenance checks to ensure a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Below are the key changes the updated legislation states:
- Improve communication & collaboration between the building's responsible persons (RPs)
- All maintenance checks and actions must be documented, and relevant information shared
- Empower authorities to act when parties fail to comply with regulations
- Ensure that fire safety information is available to residents at all times
